Cairo has been announced as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for 2022 by the Islamic World Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) because of its numerous Islamic monuments from a wide variety of time periods, making it one of the most important cities with Islamic heritage in the world.
